Thunderbolts* - 2025/their rating 7.3 - 127 minutes Decided to start this year's movies off with a Marvel movie. I didn't realize I was watching a DC comics knockoff. A group of misfit anti-heroes end up fighting for good. Seen it already in a movie series called Suicide Squad. Has Marvel run out of original ideas? I do like superhero movies though, so I give it a 6.5
Sketch - 7.1 - 2025/ 7.1/ 93 min I had no idea what to expect or who the target audience was, still not sure. The movie was about 2 kids dealing with the death of their mother. The girl does this by drawing monsters that, inadvertantly are brought to life and terrorize the countryside. You can definately see a Monster's Inc influence in her monsters. So the monsters terrorize without ever drawing blood and no one is even injured. So, guessing the target audience is young teens? But at least one of the kids is pretty funny making it watchable. I give it a 6.2 based on originality.
In the Lost Lands - 2025/6.5/ 102 min I do like Milla Jovovich in movies like this. Post apocalyptic, she's a sorceress who grants wishes. But wishes always don't always turn out well, just like deals with the devil. The movie is based around a werewolf hunt which means it's all shot mostly at night, which I hate. The other downside is it costars Dave Bautista as the new Vin Diesel tough guy. Pretty sure they went to the same acting school, which is none. I give this movie it's 6.5 because most of the CGI was pretty good.
Christy - 2025/7.3/135 min I do like sports movies and this one does a pretty good job of balancing out the drama with the fight scenes. About halfway through I started wondering if this movie was made up Hollywood or could it be true. Turns out, it is a documentary, and I ruined the end of the movie by reading all about her story on the internet before I made it through the movie. Also says a lot about how I feel about women sports, by the fact I'd never heard of her. I give this one a 6.7 for the fight scenes.
Rust - 2025/ 6.7/ 139 min I went into this with very low expectations. Alec Baldwin in a western? I didn't know they had even finished this movie after, you know, the whole Alec Baldwin killing his camerawoman with the accidental live round thing. As far as westerns go, it was actually pretty good if you can get past the occasional power lines and the dirt road out in the mountains. What I got out of it is, cowboys shooting pistols can't hit the broad side of a barn, and people were way tougher in the old west and could survive multiple gunshot wounds. But, because I like westerns, and they don't make very many anymore, I give it a 7.0
One Battle After Another 2025/ 7.5/ 162 min Watched this with my wife. she said it was terrible. I disagree. I feel she has just not watched enough terrible movies to appreciate one that wasn't. It's about a terrorist group from the 70's in which Dicaprio is the bombmaker and Sean Penn is the guy trying to bring them to justice. Jump ahead to 16 years later and Penn is after Leo and his daughter. The movie has plenty of action so it stays interesting. This movie also just won a ton of Golden Globe awards, for what that's worth. I give it a 7.2
The Naked Gun 2025/ 6.5/ 85 min I had to make two attempts to watch this abomination masquerading as one of my favorite genres of movies, the clever goofball comedy. I've seen good ones like Airplane, the original Naked Gun series, and the TV series Police Squad. I've seen mediocre ones like Hot Shots, Scary Movie etc. I've seen terrible ones where the gags are poorly written to the point where they make you just cringe. This movie has a few decent gags but then wayyy over do them. But most are just stupid. I give this turd a measly 5.5
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere 2025/ 6.9/ 120 min I will start with the disclamer that I am a Springsteen fan. So the music and how he came up with his songs kept me semi-interested. But this movie is the ultimate downer as Bruce deals with his rough childhood and his severe depression. The movie ends just before the release of the Born In The USA album, so it didn't cover the era I was most intrested in. I give this bummer a 6.0
Predator: Badlands 2025/7.8/ 107 min At first I thought OMG, yet another predator movie. Then I remembered the one with the Indians was a really good movie. This one was good too, with a new wrinkle. This time you are rooting for the predator who is ostracized on his own planet for being weak. He flies to some world to bring back a trophy none of his kind has ever been able kill, and excitement ensues. Definately worth a watch, I give it it's 7.8
Zootopia 2 2025/ 7.6/ 107 min I had to get at least one animated movie, and since I slept through a large chunk of this one at the theatre (never invite me to an afternoon movie). I enjoyed the first zootopia, but sequels are usually dissapointing. This one wasn't. If you liked the first one, you'll like this one too. I give it 7.6
